A 100-Year Arts + Culture Vision

The Performing Arts + Culture Center represents a vision for Portland’s next 100 years of arts and culture, with future-forward resources, capabilities and amenities serving patrons, presenters, artists, visitors and students.

To be constructed on downtown’s largest developable land parcel, the Center will feature a Broadway-capable theater with flexible, state-of-the-art stage capabilities and lobby amenities, ensuring tomorrow’s most spectacular shows will always come to Oregon – while guaranteeing a grand experience for patrons and presenters.

The complex will also include a community and academic theater, two multi-use rehearsal spaces that can double as small performance venues, and classrooms, offices and gathering spaces. Owned by PSU, these accessible spaces will benefit Oregon’s entire arts ecosystem, giving our region’s diverse cultural organizations, struggling since Covid, a new center of gravity and community.

The Center will supercharge downtown’s arts corridor, amplifying connections to PSU and to Portland's most beloved cultural venues. It also has room to house one flagship Portland arts organization and to serve as an arts incubator for emerging arts organizations.

The PSU-owned spaces will help expand Portland State’s signature performing arts programs, including its internationally recognized choir, and make possible unique workforce programs to meet creative talent needs across the region. It will also become a vibrant regional hub for K-12 students to participate in the performing arts.
