$150M Committed to Center

$150M Committed to Center

Building a vision requires investment. Before being officially greenlit by the City, the Center has attracted $150M in commitments — with millions more in the pipeline — because of its unprecedented potential.

Nobody interested in the future of the arts and the vitality of downtown Portland should miss this salient fact: Before the City has even officially greenlit it, the Performing Arts + Culture Center has generated more than $150 million in early-bird commitments from philanthropists, from PSU and from the State of Oregon. And right now hotel and conference developers are signaling their enthusiasm for the nationally unique project — so stay tuned for a major announcement in the weeks ahead.

Those early investments speak to the potential of the Center to spark the arts, serve patrons and students, and drive economic development. They also demonstrate that the multi-use project has multiple pathways to funding, which means City taxpayers will not be asked to cover the full costs. Far from it.

Let’s break down the PSU investment alone. PSU has already committed or leveraged:

  • $137.5 million - state bond funding PSU secured for its portions of the project
  • $12.5 million - philanthropic pledges already promised
  • $7.6 million - initial funding from Prosper Portland

Nobody wants to leave that money on the table. And imagine what will happen once the project is officially a go? Amazing momentum
