Traffic Study: No deal breakers, ample opportunities
A traffic study commissioned by the City of Portland delivered results that found no impediments to moving ahead with the development of the Performing Arts + Culture Center on the 4.25 acre site that faces S.W. Lincoln St.
DKS Associates found that the multi-use Performing Arts + Culture Center, which will bring additional visitors to downtown Portland — indeed, it’s a catalyst project that will spur economic activity in the district and inspire patrons with accessible cultural activities. The good news from a traffic perspective is that visitors will come largely outside of key congestion periods and will converge on the site from multiple directions.
A nearby I-405 onramp offers one of the convenient entry points for the Center and DKS experts found that any concerns about access from the freeway can be managed with appropriate coordination and planning during the development phase.
The Performing Arts + Culture Center site also features a MAX public transit station is located adjacent just steps from the front entrance, as well as two pedestrian paths located along the alignment of SW 2nd Avenue and SW 3rd Avenue. The study also noted the more than 3,000 parking spaces within a five-block walk, not including the Center’s planned on-site parking.
