Traffic Study Clears Path Forward

A recent traffic study commissioned by the City of Portland found no impediments to moving ahead with planning and development of the Performing Arts + Culture Center on the 4.25 acre site that faces SW Lincoln Street.

DKS Associates, a local transportation engineering firm, noted that the multi-use Performing Arts + Culture Center will bring additional visitors to downtown Portland. It is a catalyst project that will spur economic activity in the district and make possible accessible cultural activities. The good news from a traffic perspective is that visitors will come largely outside of key congestion periods and will converge on the site from multiple directions.

A nearby I-405 onramp offers one of the convenient entry points for the Center. DKS found that any concerns about access from the freeway can be managed with appropriate coordination and planning during the development phase.

The study noted that the Performing Arts + Culture Center site features a MAX Light Rail stop as well as numerous bus stops directly adjacent to the site as well as two pedestrian paths located along the alignment of SW 2nd Avenue and SW 3rd Avenue. The study also noted the more than 3,000 parking spaces within a five-block walk, not including the Center’s planned on-site parking.
